FinancialForce.com Career Open House – Q&A with Charles Ashworth, VP of Employee Success

In case you haven’t heard, FinancialForce.com is growing, growing, growing and we’re constantly on the lookout for passionate and talented people to join in the fun.

Currently we are looking to fill over 100 positions across all departments (Sales, Devs, Engineers & more) and office locations, and in order to spread the word and make the hiring process a little more fun, on Thursday, April 16, we will be hosting our very own open house recruitment event from 4-7 PM PT at Park Central Hotel, Metropolitan Ballroom 1, 50 Third Street in San Francisco.
ffdc career day blogTo learn more about the event and how to get involved, I sat down with Charles Ashworth, FinancialForce.com’s VP of Employee Success. Read below for the full low-down and we hope to meet you (or someone you know) on April 16th!

AR: What a great idea to host a recruitment open house. Can you give us a quick overview of what to expect?

CA: Thanks! We’re excited – this is FinancialForce.com’s first solo recruiting event. We have over a hundred positions to fill across the company (35+ in the Bay Area) and while we love the traditional hiring process, we really want to be able to meet with qualified candidates live and make the hiring process as engaging as possible for both parties.

At the event we will be focused on recruiting for all the Bay Area positions (which can be found on our website: FinancialForce.com/Careers), ranging from entry level to senior level positions, but we of course welcome candidates interested in a position elsewhere to also stop by.

How should an interested candidate prepare?

We recommend that they look at our website and check out the available positions and then apply online. We recommend applying beforehand as it helps the hiring managers get to know you better before meeting in person and determine your qualifications, but it is not required to attend.

Also, please be sure to read the job descriptions in full and be confident that you meet the requirements listed. We meet so many incredible candidates but only those who qualify will move on to hiring rounds. We also recommend you do a little research on the company and our recent news so you can jump right into thoughtful conversations with FinancialForce.com employees.

Most importantly, expect to have a lot of fun. We’ll provide drinks, snacks, raffles and giveaways!

Is this formal attire? What should a candidate bring with them?

In terms of attire, we suggest business casual. A candidate should wear what they might wear to an on-site interview.

We also recommend attendees bring copies of their resume and any other documents/materials they see relevant to their desired position and experience.

What kind of people are you looking to hire?

We are a very diverse company and welcome candidates from all walks of life. Most importantly, we just want to meet passionate people who are excited about FinancialForce.com and where the company is headed.

Thanks again Charles! We look forward to seeing everyone at the Park Central Hotel in San Francisco on Thursday, April 16th (4-7pm PST).

Customer Update: Pactera replaces NetSuite with FinancialForce PSA

Last week we had the pleasure to announce that Pactera, a trusted consulting and technology services partner that delivers world-class business and IT consulting and solutions to a wide range of Fortune 500 clients, has officially implemented FinancialForce Professional Services Automation (PSA) for 1,100 users globally.

Before selecting FinancialForce PSA, Pactera was using NetSuite OpenAir and found that because their CRM and PSA apps were spread across various platforms, they were often faced with reporting inconsistencies and project accounting and timesheet data issues which forced employees to frequently manually maintain information. As most of our customers know, manual entry equals time and money that could be spent elsewhere.

Committed to overhauling their systems to help build a unified project accounting platform, Pactera took action and rolled out Salesforce CRM across the whole organization and implemented FinancialForce PSA. Since doing so, the company has already seen results. According to Brendan Connolly, head of Pactera’s Enterprise in the Cloud Practice in Australia, Pactera has “already saved time and money and improved overall efficiency.”

We like the sound of that and can’t wait to see what else Pactera achieves in the future. For more details on Pactera’s selection of FinancialForce PSA, read through the full press release.

Have you taken a good, hard look at the state of supply chain management lately? The VAR business model is quickly evolving and growing in support of the technology sector in order to better service and engage supply end user customers.

In a recent report, Aberdeen Group’s Bryan Ball, Vice President and Group Director of Supply Chain and GSM Practices, examined the current and future state of supply chain to uncover the most important success factors for VARs. He found that amidst the changing landscape, understanding the supply chain requirements of the evolving business model will be imperative for VARs to achieve success, which will ultimately be determined by how VARs manage their services performance compared to the competition.

For example, have you established a rebate tracking mechanism? Do you know if you have a 48% margin or higher on all service business; a Best-in-Class performance metric? These are just a couple items to keep in mind as a VAR in 2015.

Take a look at the full success checklist to see where you stack up and to ensure that your supply chain and service model is truly Best-in-Class: aberdeen VAR report

The benefits of integrating your CRM and Accounting on one cloud platform

From the outside, billing a customer is a straightforward transaction right? Invoice the customer. Receive payment. Repeat. Not so fast. Billing is just one element of how a business engages with a customer and in order to have a true, 360 view of an account, its imperative to understand their needs and goals from a payment perspective and to be fully integrated with other touch-point data systems like CRM so all information can seamlessly connect.

As analyst Scott Pezza from Blue Hill Research puts it perfectly: “Having accurate and accessible information about each customer allows businesses not only to bill properly, but to maintain and grow revenue by extending those opportunities strategically.”

Scott recently took a closer look at billing processes and the importance of integrating CRM and financials through one of our FinancialForce Accounting customers, a data recovery software firm. The organization was using Salesforce CRM for sales and Quickbooks for financials, which often resulted in inaccurate reporting, impaired contract renewal visibility and inconsistent customer interactions. Realizing this was a major issue that needed to be addressed, they opted to integrate both systems by selecting a full-service cloud ERP software solution.

Following a formal RFP stage, the firm selected FinancialForce Accounting over NetSuite, and in no time, the company was able to “tie contract and invoice creation directly to their existing opportunity workflow” and because all data lives on the Salesforce1 Platform, they have achieved more accurate customer tracking and contract expiration visibility and employees are now equipped with instant, up-to-date customer information, among other improvements.

DL-BHR-reportThrough speaking with this firm and hearing their story, which can be read in full in the Blue Hill Research report, Scott uncovered several lessons for those looking to make smarter billing decisions and begin integrating various system records:

  • Detail integration requirements when evaluating potential solutions, particularly in areas where you need information entered into one system to be immediately accessible on another.
  • Recognize the possibility of missed opportunities due to data visibility issues.
  • Appreciate the impact of accurate billing data and understand where errors can be introduced.

For more information, the entire report can be accessed here.

Last week we had the pleasure to officially announce that AECOM, a Fortune 500 infrastructure and services firm with 100,000 employees worldwide and clients in over 150 countries around the globe, has selected FinancialForce PSA to help the company construct a fully integrated project management and delivery system.

Prior to FinancialForce PSA, AECOM employees were using several industry legacy systems to manage projects, resulting in environments that were not fully integrated into a single platform. To counter this, FinancialForce PSA was selected in response to an executive initiative to integrate, streamline and further advance its already strong delivery capabilities.

With FinancialForce PSA, AECOM will now be able to offer its clients an unprecedented view of all projects, opportunities and metrics never before offered in the industry, in addition to integrating all systems in order to fully automate workflow and increase overall efficiency for project managers across all departments.

We extend a very warm welcome to AECOM and can’t wait to hear how FinancialForce PSA has assisted their world-class organization!

Constellation Research: Success with integrating cloud finance & CRM

Have you experienced integration issues between your modern CRM system and outdated, legacy financial system? Don’t worry, you’re not alone, and good news, there is a solution that can help quickly eliminate these inefficiencies – integrating on one single platform!

To learn more about the pay-offs of front-to-back office integration Holger Mueller, VP and Principal Analyst at Constellation Research spent time with a FinancialForce.com customer, Venture Technologies, a systems integrator company that had an integration problem between their aging financials system and Salesforce CRM. As a quickly growing VAR for enterprises like Cisco, HP and EMC, Venture Technologies’ legacy accounting solution (which they had used since the 90’s) was never truly assimilated with Salesforce CRM, resulting in manual re-keying of important data like order lines which proved to be extremely costly and time-consuming for employees. Further, the company often ran into errors due to the manual entry processes.

Download the full report, “Cloud Finance Modernization and CRM Integration Pay Off,” here.

Venture Technologies ended up replacing their accounting system with FinancialForce Accounting and FinancialForce Supply Chain Management (SCM), which integrates directly with Salesforce CRM as they are built directly on the Salesforce1 Platform.

Venture Technologies found that by integrating financials and CRM onto one single platform, the company has greatly improved visibility for both finance and CRM users and improved customer processes and reduced Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) by 10 days to 35 days. The company also achieved 40% savings in finance department headcount and dramatically increased reporting quality.

After digesting Venture Technologies’ integration success story, Holger shared several recommendations for the many enterprises who are in similar situations – those that are stuck with varying, disconnected systems. Recommendations for CXOs about integration of systems include:

  •      Determine the extent of integrations needed
  •      Establish integration costs
  •      Plan for integration budgets
  •      Monitor continuously
  •      Take bold action – if necessary

To read Venture Technologies story and recommendations for integration in detail, please download a copy of the case study here from Constellation Research.

SPI Research: integrating Salesforce CRM & FinancialForce PSA is the “winning combination”

Whether you work in the Professional Services (PS) industry or not, there is no denying that it has grown into a global economic force, existing and expanding within companies of all shapes and sizes. Fueling this growth over the last decade has been the increased adoption of technologies like Client Relationship Management (CRM) solutions to manage contacts and streamline sales as well as Professional Services Automation solutions to improve project management insight and service delivery lifecycle.

Unfortunately, many organizations still operate sales and services separately, with CRM and PSA data removed from each other, which can result in disconnected departments and potential mismanaged projects and client information. While many businesses have deployed CRM and PSA separately, there is a new report released from Service Performance Insight (SPI) Research that highlights the importance and benefits of integrating both solutions.

Specifically, this study reveals how the integration of Salesforce CRM and FinancialForce PSA on one platform proves to be a winning combination for PS executives, sales and service team members. SPI Research analysis showed that PSOs using Salesforce CRM in combination with FinancialForce PSA “not only improved in client relationship management, but also in service execution and finance and operations.”

SPI also outlines several key profits of integration for all users, including:

  • Executives: managers gain access to real-time project cost, budget, and revenue information that enables them to quickly answer vital project and revenue-based questions.
  • Sales teams: CRM and PSA integration connects sales team members to project execution teams. Sales team members gain access to client and project summary information that helps them understand a client’s current status and whether there are new sales opportunities to pursue
  • Service teams: service team members are able to plan and prepare for upcoming projects and collaborate more effectively with the sales team on new opportunities and existing client engagements

Interested in learning more? Download the full SPI Research report here for further best practices, key performance indicators and CRM + PSA integration recommendations.

3 astronomical mistakes to avoid as a Dreamforce newbie

$

0

Share

With hundreds of thousands of people expected, hundreds of parties, sessions and meeting invites, Dreamforce can be overwhelming for even the most seasoned conference attendee.

We’ve compiled a few of the most important mistakes to avoid this year at Dreamforce, especially if you’ve never attended an event of its scale before. Hopefully with these tips and tricks, you’ll enter San Francisco next week like a pro:

  • ‘Go big’ and you will ‘go home!’ – If you plan to party on the first night like it’s your last, you can guarantee it will be…your last good day at Dreamforce. While the parties are always a blast and great networking opportunities, remember that your sessions and meetings during the day are the main event. The parties should serve as the cherry on top of an educational and productive day/week.
  • Don’t forget the basics – Comfy shoes, water bottle, business cards, eating lunch. These seem like obvious things but we’ve been to Dreamforce enough times to know that the most basic, self-care elements are always the first to go. You will have long days and nights, back-to-back meetings and hours on your feet so be sure to take care of yourself first and foremost.
  • Prioritize – One big give away of a Dreamforce first-timer is the “overbooked calendar.” You don’t have to commit to everything and everyone. Take a step back from your schedule and pick out the sessions and meetings that matter the most to you and plan around those. Remember, session locations might not be next to each other so bake in time for travel, lunch breaks and recharging.

Have any other suggestions we didn’t include? Please share – we’d love to hear. Good luck out there!

During this year’s Dreamforce  we announced the official FinancialForce.com Punch Time Tracker App for Apple Watch. To refresh your memory, it’s our first Apple Watch app that delivers instant time tracking capabilities specifically designed for today’s modern and mobile workforce. The app is fully integrated with FinancialForce Human Capital Management (HCM) and tightly interoperates with FinancialForce Professional Services Automation (PSA), ensuring that both employee time and projects are continuously updated, in real-time and on-the-go.

Today, we’re excited to share an in-depth look at how the FinancialForce.com Punch Time Tracker App works with a new video showcasing just how easy it is for an employee to punch in and out of a project, and all the benefits the app provides.

Check out the video below, starring our talented Director of Platform Technology, Kevin Roberts, AKA “Ash.”

But wait, there’s more! To learn more about wearables in the workplace and what the future has in store, Kevin will be presenting at the Cloud Computing Expo in Santa Clara, CA this upcoming Wednesday, 11/4 at 8:30am PT.  You can register for the event here. We hope to see you there and demo our app for you live!

The leaves might be changing and temperatures might be dropping, but here at FinancialForce.com, all our news and PR activities are continuing to heat up!

October was a fun-filled month with interviews, news briefings and of course, coverage that continued to flow in from September’s Dreamforce. But the real star of this month was our presence at HR Technology Conference and TSW Conferences in Las Vegas where we unveiled FinancialForce.com Peoplecasting, which you read all about here in our press release.

See below for some of our best moments in October and check out the press center for all of our highlights

  • Late in October, Salesforce released a report from IDC that analyzed the economic impact of the company, customers and partners and found that by 2018, Salesforce and its ecosystem of customers and partners will create 1 million jobs and generate $272 billion in GDP impact worldwide. FinancialForce.com was named as one of three partner examples helping Salesforce achieve this growth.
  • In a piece for Diginomica, analyst Brian Sommer wrote about his time meeting with us at HR Technology and provided readers with an overview and analysis of Peoplecasting. Steve Brooks of Enterprise Times also reported on the news.
  • In one of our favorite reads of the year, Martin Veitch of IDG Connect wrote a profile on CEO Jeremy Roche and the company, detailing our early years, our relationship with Salesforce and what’s on the horizon.
  • Following meetings at Dreamforce, TrustRadius published an interview with SVP of Marketing, Tom Brennan, and Tom Miller of ERP Focus wrote an overview of all our Dreamforce updates.

With news like this, we’re excited to show you everything November has to offer.

This week we spent valuable time networking, soaking in educational sessions and enjoying the incredible views of Half Moon Bay at Constellation Research’s Connected Enterprise Conference.

In September, we announced that two of our amazing customers,  R.J. Smith, Vice President of Finance and Special Projects at Venture Technologies and Asha Aravindakshan, Director of Global Talent Operations at Ashoka were selected as finalists in this year’s Constellation Research SuperNova Awards which were celebrated last night at the awards Gala Dinner.

Well, the night couldn’t have gone better – we’re thrilled to announce that Asha and Ashoka were chosen as the winner in the Future of Work category for their use of FinancialForce HCM! Ashoka’s commitment to improving the workplace, onboarding and engaging their people through technology is humbling, and we’re ecstatic that our innovative customers like Ashoka and Venture Technologies were rightfully recognized among other industry disruptors and influencers.
